Program Overview:

This 9-month program is designed to teach you and your dog the art of scent trailing, focusing on developing your dog’s natural scent-tracking instincts. Whether for recreation, sport, or practical applications, this structured program will guide your dog step-by-step in building his/her ability to follow scent trails with confidence and precision.

Program Timeline:

6 Week Board and Train: Your dog will stay at defender K9 for a full 6 weeks while learning the scent trailing foundation.

Weeks 1-2: On leash basic obedience

Week 3: introduction to scent trailing - step 1

Week 4: Introduction to scent trailing - step 2

Week 5: Introduction to scent trailing - step 3

Week 6: Tying it all together

2-weeks On-going scent trail development:

Meet at agreed location 3x a week for practical application of scent trailing.

1 Month On-going scent trail development:

Meet at agreed location 2x a week for practical application of scent trailing.

1 Month On-going scent trail development:

Meet at agreed location once a week for practical application of scent trailing.

1 Month On-going scent trail development:

Meet at agreed location once every other week for practical application of scent trailing.

4-months On-going scent trail development:

Meet at agreed location once a month for practical application of scent trailing.

Who Should Enroll:

Dog owners of beginning and intermediate levels. No prior trailing experience is needed—just a motivated dog and a willingness to use their nose!

***Please note: Trailing involves a reward for the dog. This reward must be motivational to that specific dog. Toy rewards work best in specialty trainings.
